lapland
Lapland’s nature is truly unique, with its forests, fells, lakes, and rivers—not to mention its dramatic four seasons.
WINTER typically begins in late October or early November when the first snow covers the ground.
THE POLAR NIGHT arrives in early December and lasts about a month in Enontekiö. During this time, the sun doesn’t rise above the horizon, casting a dusky light with soft pinks and deep blues. The coldest part of winter follows, with February usually bringing the chilliest temperatures.
SPRING is ideal for enjoying snow-based activities like skiing, snowshoeing, and even fat biking. The days are sunny, snow blankets the ground, and it often looks as if the landscape is sparkling with millions of tiny diamonds. As the sun climbs higher, the snow begins to melt, and by May, it’s usually all gone.
SUMMER ushers in the season of nightless nights and the enchanting midnight sun. From late May to the end of July, the sun stays above the horizon around the clock. It’s the perfect time to enjoy paddling, hiking, or biking through Lapland’s lakes, rivers, and forests—just remember to pack some mosquito repellent!
AUTUMN is a stunning time in Lapland. By mid-September, the vegetation begins to turn brilliant shades of red and orange as the green fades away. It’s a wonderful season for hiking, foraging mushrooms, and picking berries.
